Senior Housing | West Oakland, CA | Spring 2025
A reimagining of senior housing rooted in curiosity, dignity, and connection.
This medium-density building replaces institutional care with open circulation, shared gardens, and soft spatial thresholds. Using a courtyard mat typology, private ADA-compliant rooms are scattered across an open plan that encourages movement and interaction.
The ground floor is open to the public, with a community library and nurse-first aid space inviting neighbors in. Built-in nooks, shared tabletops, and inhabitable wall elements turn boundaries into invitations.
Elders move freely through this building — not managed, but self-directed.
This is not just housing. It’s a space to begin again.
